FREE Intro to Irish Dance Classes
Are you interested in dabbling in Irish dance to see what it is all about? Here is your chance. Celtic Motion will be offering ** FREE ** 45-minute dance classes for the month of September. Take as many sessions as you like - one, two, three or all four! These sessions will be geared to those that have never danced Irish Step Dance but have always thought it would be fun to give it a try. There is no need to purchase any special shoes for these classes. Wear comfortable exercise clothing and shoes and bring a water bottle and sweat towel.
Classes will be held from 6:00p-6:45p at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church (3535 Kessler Blvd, near the southeast corner of 38th and Kessler Blvd) in the basement Fellowship Hall. Park on the south side of the church and go in the door facing the parking lot (it should be propped open). Contact celticmotion@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

2011 State Fair Remembered
Celtic Motion heads to the Fairgrounds this afternoon for its last performance at the 2011 Indiana State Fair, so it seemed like a good time to remember this year's outing. Here are a few of our favorite shots, courtesy of Tim Biddle of Photo Memories by TK.

Recap: Knox County Public Library (Vincennes, IN)
On March 19, a small group of dancers headed to Vincennes to perform at The Fortnightly at the Knox County Public Library. Travels from Indianapolis were uneventful, and after enjoying a nice dinner together, we found The Fortnightly and began prepping for the show.
We never quite know what to expect when we arrive at a venue, and this was no exception. Based on the stage, we had to make some quick changes to entrances and exits and just barely had enough time to walk through everything before the evenings activities began with live musicians. Then it was a quick change, warm-up, and time for the show to begin.
This performance gave us a chance to initiate our newest member, Rebecca, into Celtic Motion. She did a fabulous job in her first official performance with the group (especially with the last-minute changes). Way to go, Rebecca, and welcome to the group!
As part of our show, we took some time to break down two basic Irish steps called skip23s and side steps. Then we taught a small group of brave souls a fun, easy ceili dance. Everyone had a grand time, and after everyone took their seats again, we finished out our portion of the show with four more dances. Then it was time to pile back in the cars and head back home. We all agreed that it was an excellent show with an excellent audienc,e and we had a fabulous time dancing for them on the beautiful wood stage.

Recap: St. Patrick's Day 2011
For a few Celtic Motion dancers it has become a tradition to dance at the Greening of the Canal in downtown Indianapolis on St. Patrick's Day, and this year was no exception. At 5:30 am, four brave souls huddled to the side of the stage trying to warm-up before taking the stage as the first act to perform. A short 4 minutes later, we were done and enjoying some nice warm hot chocolate. Despite the cold weather and the early morning hours, we have come to really enjoy kick-starting our St. Patrick’s Day celebrations at the canal event.
Next up was Riley’s Children Hospital, where three dancers participated in their St. Patrick’s Day events. The event was held in the Atrium Lobby, and there were several activity areas for the kids to enjoy. We danced when the kids came around to our area, and it was a joy to interact with the kids and see all their precious faces enthralled and amazed at our dancing. We especially enjoyed our time at Riley and hope we can return next year.
From Riley’s we had to fight the traffic of spectators arriving downtown for the Irish Parade as we made our way over to City Market to dance with our fiddle playing friend Emily Ann Thompson and her husband and guitarist, Kelly. As usual, we had a great time dancing to live fiddle and guitar music. From City Market, we were off to the Zionsville Meadows Senior Community to participate in another St. Patrick’s Day party organized by Cyndi Simmerman of Irish Blessings.
By the end of the day, we were very weary and sore but also happy that we had been able to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and to share our love of Irish dance with so many people.
